The Wells Fargo Championship will be up for grabs on Sunday. But Patrick Reed will start the final round atop the leaderboard by one shot.
With winds howling, Reed had six birdies with one bogey during a 5-under 67 performance in Round 3. Alex Noren and Jon Rahm trail him by just a shot. Fifteen other plays including Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson, are within four shots or less.
Reed will have his work cut out for him to say the least.
“Normally, a couple guys separate themselves from the pack, but it’s just going to mean it’s going to be more fun on Sunday,” Reed said. “I’m not going to do anything different. I’m just going to go out there and play the same kind of golf I’ve been trying to play — hit fairways, hit greens and let my putter do the work.”
Dustin Johnson had his best round by far on Saturday. The World No. 1 shot a 5-under 67 after a 70 and 75 in the first two rounds. Johnson went bogey-free and collected five birdies.
While Johnson didn’t miss a ton of time, missing The Masters certainly had to be a big blow to his season. If he can find a way to win the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday, he will extend his PGA Tour win streak to four.
The final round should be a lot of fun.
