Memorable moments
A century for Tabata
Japan had more to celebrate on Friday than their impressive 9-4 defeat of Poland, with veteran Teruki Tabata making his 100th appearance for the Asian side. To mark the occasion, the evergreen No7 was presented with a shirt bearing the number ‘100’ on the back at the end of the match.

Awesome Andrade
Whenever Portugal take to the sand, the fans are invariably guaranteed goals, spectacular plays and lots of excitement. On Friday, it was the turn of their goalkeeper Andrade to shine. Keeping a clean sheet and distributing the ball with aplomb, he provided the best possible support for his team-mates. “My role here is to be a keeper who can give us a numerical advantage, not just so that we stop the opposition from scoring but so that we can be one of those teams with five on the pitch instead of four,” he said, speaking exclusively to FIFA.com.

Carballo here to stay
Carlos Carballo is hardly a new face on the scene, having been named as the best player of the South American qualifiers. The 24-year-old Paraguayan picked up where he left off in that competition, posing a constant threat to the United Arab Emirates defence and scoring both his side’s goals.
