Last year’s Lalla Meryem Cup champion Nuria Iturrioz from Mallorca fired a second round of six-under-par 65 in fine conditions at Club de Golf Terramar on Friday morning to take a three-stroke clubhouse lead in the inaugural Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open.
Nuria said: “We had a nice day, so I enjoyed the course and it’s in great condition. I want to keep enjoying it and making a lot of birdies. The course is a little bit short, so I can reach the greens on the par fives in two shots. We have 36 more holes so I am just playing and enjoying.”
The fun-loving Spaniard sits at eight-under-par ahead of fellow early starters Stacey Peters, Holly Clyburn and Jenny Haglund.
Pamela Pretswell was at six-under-par after seven holes, while fellow Scot Kylie Henry who played with Nuria fired a seven-under 64 to be part of the chasing pack, five strokes from the leader.
World number 10 Anna Nordqvist began the day with a one stroke lead and made a birdie on the fifth hole, but she took a double-bogey on the par-4 eighth.
